Jennifer Sweeney is a children’s book writer living in the mountains with her husband and two dogs. After more than a decade in education, including helping hundreds of students discover the joy of reading, Jennifer is turning the page to follow her longtime passion of creating stories of her own!
Jennifer always believed in the magic of a good story and has seen firsthand how it can spark imagination, inspire curiosity, and most importantly, make a child fall in love with reading. Now, she is ready to bring a little bit of that magic into the world through writing her own picture books filled with fun and a whole lot of laughter!
Jennifer is currently working toward getting her first book traditionally published. In the meantime, she’s thrilled to have been featured alongside other talented authors in two books coming out this fall. (More details on the “Stories” page!)
When she is not reading or writing, you can betcha she is out in the woods hiking or in her kitchen baking up something delicious (often with her sourdough starter, “Doughlores”)! After all, life is full of adventure if you just stop and take a moment to slow down. You never know what might turn into a story!
A Few Fun Facts about Jennifer:
Because every author has a story…and some of mine are a liiiiiitle bit weird!
- I’ve actually floated in a magic show. I believe in magic. That’s all I have to say about that.
- When I was little, I named my blanket Mrs. Toggle after my favorite book character. Don’t judge. I guarantee you still have a favorite blanket.
- Last summer, I made my own sourdough starter and named her “Doughlores.” We make the best treats together.
- My dogs are book characters! Well, sort of! My two pups inspired two of my characters, so they’re basically furry little helpers.
- I have a flower that glows in the dark! It’s called a Firefly Petunia, and yes, it’s totally something from the fairies.
- I once lived in Australia. And I had a spider in my room that was at least the size of a New York bagel. I wish I were exaggerating. (I have photo evidence.)
- Whenever I visit a bookstore in a new place, I look for the same book. If they have it, I buy it. Every. Single. Time. Listen, I don’t make the rules.
- Kick-flipping off what I just said, I have collections of collections. Ariel would be proud, honestly. Shells, stickers, books, pens, plants…you name it. Actually, message me about my WEIRDEST collection. I promise it’s worth your time.
- I once met my favorite author, Robin Pulver, and discovered that the school where I had my first job was the inspiration for the school in my favorite story of hers! What are the odds? (No really, does any mathematician know?) Sure are a lot of things in life that feel a little like magic. ❤
